由于日益嚴(yán)重的全球變暖趨向遭到世界各國(guó)的注重，溫室氣體減排越來(lái)越緊迫。2007年在印尼巴厘島召開(kāi)的結(jié)合國(guó)氣候變化大會(huì)和2009年的G20峰會(huì)都把減少化石能源耗費(fèi)、開(kāi)展可再生能源作為首要任務(wù)。CH4的溫室氣體效應(yīng)可達(dá)CO2氣體的21倍，全球溫室氣體效應(yīng)20%來(lái)自甲烷。假如沼氣得不到有效應(yīng)用，就會(huì)成為形成溫室效應(yīng)的元兇。以每日應(yīng)用沼氣提純制取6萬(wàn)規(guī)范立方米生物天然氣為例，每年減排溫室氣體排放量相當(dāng)于約45.8萬(wàn)tCO2，可見(jiàn)沼氣提純對(duì)完成我國(guó)節(jié)能減排目的具有重要意義。
